Islamabad (TDI): Participants of the 6th International Young Diplomats School (IYDS) enriched their cross-cultural understanding with an interactive session at the High Commission of Mauritius in Pakistan.
The visit was part of this year’s
three-day school, organized by the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS).
The session, held on the second day of the school, brought together a vibrant cohort of young professionals, students, and academics from across Pakistan for an in-depth dialogue with Munsoo Kurrimbaccus, High Commissioner of Mauritius to Pakistan.
Participants were offered insights into Mauritius’s diplomatic priorities, its economic strengths, and the rich cultural heritage that defines the island nation.
HC Kurrimbaccus also underscored potential avenues for collaboration between Pakistan and Mauritius in areas such as trade, tourism, education, and broader people-to-people exchanges.
Establishing a platform for public diplomacy, the IYDS continues to foster meaningful engagement between the next generation of leaders and diplomatic missions based in Islamabad.
The program emphasizes first-hand learning through interactive discussions with foreign envoys and country representatives, enabling participants to broaden their understanding of global affairs and bilateral relations.
Earlier on Tuesday and Wednesday, the IYDS cohort engaged with several other diplomatic missions, including visits to the embassies of
Austria,
Russia,
Zimbabwe,
Nepal, and
Kazakhstan.
It also visited the offices of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), and International Labor Organization.
These engagements not only aim to deepen participants’ regional awareness but also empower them with the tools to think critically about global challenges and foreign policy strategy.
IYDS offers a unique bridge between academic study and diplomatic practice, equipping emerging leaders with practical insights and networks that extend beyond traditional classroom settings.
As the three-day school progresses, the participants are expected to conclude with a well-rounded appreciation of diplomacy in action, from multilateral engagement to bilateral cooperation.
Established in December 2008, The Diplomatic Insight is Pakistan’s premier diplomacy and foreign affairs magazine, available in both digital and print formats.
