Rio De Janeiro (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for enhanced cooperation between China and Europe to address global challenges, urging dialogue to resolve economic and trade differences.
The appeal came during meetings with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Brazil.
During his meeting with Chancellor Scholz, President Xi emphasized the importance of consolidating the China-Germany comprehensive strategic partnership.
He underscored the highly integrated economic interests of the two nations and the mutual opportunities for shared development.
Xi assured that China would continue to offer significant market opportunities for German businesses, positioning Germany as a key partner in China’s modernization drive, Xinhua reported.

Meeting President Macron, Xi reflected on his visit to France earlier this year, during which both leaders set a vision for the next 60 years of China-France relations.
Xi highlighted the unique global significance of China-France ties and expressed hope for deeper strategic communication and expanded practical cooperation.
Both leaders reaffirmed the critical role of France and Germany in advancing China-EU relations, with Xi emphasizing Europe’s importance in promoting a multipolar world order.
Xi highlighted the urgent need for China and the EU to work together against rising protectionism, unilateralism, climate change, and escalating regional conflicts.
He called for closer strategic communication with France and Germany to maintain positive momentum in China-EU relations and contribute to global peace and stability.

President Macron, in turn, reaffirmed France’s commitment to strategic autonomy and collaboration with China in addressing global challenges.
Macron expressed interest in strengthening ties in areas like climate change, global governance of artificial intelligence, and maintaining sound bilateral trade relations.
In discussions with Scholz, Xi addressed the European Union’s proposed tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), urging the German leader to mediate in resolving the issue through dialogue.
Scholz echoed the sentiment, expressing hope that the matter would be resolved soon.
He pledged Germany’s commitment to fostering bilateral cooperation in digitalization, low-carbon initiatives, and exploring third-party markets for mutual benefit.
The German chancellor reiterated the importance of equality and mutual respect in bilateral ties and pledged to work towards enhancing China-Germany relations in the face of global economic challenges.
China and the EU remain pivotal players in addressing shared international issues, with Germany and France positioned as crucial intermediaries in fostering sustained cooperation and dialogue.
