Rio De Janeiro (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping called for the creation of a just and inclusive global development framework during his address at the opening session of the 19th G20 Summit on Monday.
Speaking at the session titled “Fight Against Hunger and Poverty”, Xi unveiled an eight-point action plan to support global development and emphasized China’s role in achieving shared prosperity.
In his address, “Building a Just World of Common Development”, Xi underscored the rapid global transformations and the unique opportunities and challenges humanity faces.
He urged G20 leaders to adopt a vision of unity, seeing the world as an interconnected community with a shared future, and to take decisive action to move history forward.
“Major nations must not let transient clouds obstruct their vision,” Xi remarked, advocating for greater responsibility and initiative from the G20 leadership.

Xi highlighted China’s efforts in placing development at the forefront of the G20 agenda since the Hangzhou Summit, where macroeconomic policy coordination was first prioritized.
This year’s summit theme, “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet”, reflects the ongoing commitment to tackling global inequalities, particularly through initiatives like the newly launched Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.
“To build a just world, we must allocate more resources to trade, investment, and development cooperation,” Xi said.
He added that fostering inclusivity, reducing barriers, and creating pathways for developing nations to modernize are vital steps.

Xi emphasized the importance of sustainable growth, urging nations to address critical challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
He called for an international economic environment that promotes open and inclusive globalization, leveraging technological advancements for equitable progress and reducing the North-South development gap.
Xi Emphasizes Multilateralism
He also reiterated the need for multilateralism and the strengthening of the UN-centered international system to uphold global norms and foster unity.
Xi highlighted China’s achievements in lifting over 800 million people out of poverty, achieving the UN’s 2030 Agenda targets ahead of schedule.
“China’s story proves that developing nations can overcome poverty with perseverance and a clear vision,” he said.
Through targeted policies and local industrial growth, China has prioritized people-centered development.
“If China can succeed, so can other developing nations,” he added.
