Kazan (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for enhanced cooperation among BRICS members to align with the rising prominence of the Global South and respond to the growing interest of other nations in joining the group’s framework.
Speaking at the 16th BRICS Summit, Xi urged the group to accelerate its membership expansion and strengthen the representation of developing countries in global governance.
Xi emphasized the importance of BRICS nations in fostering peace, calling for a collective commitment to avoid expanding the battlefield, escalating conflicts, or provoking further hostilities, especially in the context of the Ukraine crisis.
He urged BRICS to champion de-escalation efforts, reinforcing the bloc’s role as a guardian of common security.
The Chinese president also stressed the need for BRICS to lead in innovation and drive high-quality development.
He advocated for the creation of a “green BRICS,” underscoring the necessity of sustainable development.
Furthermore, Xi highlighted the importance of justice in global governance, calling on BRICS countries to lead reform efforts and promote peaceful coexistence and harmony between civilizations.

As part of China’s contribution to BRICS cooperation, Xi announced the establishment of 10 overseas learning centers in BRICS countries.
These centers will offer training opportunities to 1,000 educators, administrators, and students, reflecting China’s commitment to enhancing educational collaboration within the bloc.
BRICS Membership Expansion
The summit, chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin, also saw discussions on expanding the group’s membership, which Xi hailed as a significant milestone in BRICS’ evolution.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres attended the summit in Russia, underscoring the global importance of the gathering.

BRICS, over the years, has distinguished itself from other multilateral forums by delivering tangible results, particularly in strengthening the voice of the Global South in global affairs.
Analysts note that the group’s practical initiatives—such as the New Development Bank and the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center in China—have contributed significantly to infrastructure development and sustainable growth in developing countries.
