Beijing, 31 August 2024 (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that China and Africa are a community with a shared future.
In a letter addressed to scholars from 50 African countries, Xi highlighted the importance of strengthening solidarity and cooperation between China and Africa amid a rapidly changing global landscape.
He urged the scholars to continue their intellectual support for developing a high-level China-Africa community and protecting the common interests of the Global South.
Xi also referenced the recent third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which he described as setting the stage for Chinese modernization through deepened reforms.
China Contributes to Modernization Global South
He expressed confidence that China’s ongoing development, centered on peaceful growth and openness, will bolster global peace, justice, and contribute significantly to the modernization of the Global South.
Looking ahead, Xi anticipated that the forthcoming Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) will further enhance China-Africa relations and open new avenues for cooperation.
He called for increased research and exploration into the development paths of Global South countries, emphasizing the Dar es Salaam Consensus as a foundation for advancing China-Africa and South-South cooperation.
The letter came in response to a joint message from Gert Grobler, a former South African diplomat and honorary professor at Zhejiang Normal University, and 63 scholars from 50 African nations.

The scholars congratulated Xi on the CPC Central Committee’s recent session and praised the achievements of FOCAC.
He expressed optimism for the upcoming summit’s role in advancing China-Africa collaboration and the joint modernization of the Global South.
