Rio De Janeiro (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the shared responsibilities of China and France in addressing global challenges during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday.
Amid an evolving international landscape, President Xi underscored the unique strategic significance and global influence of China-France relations.
He highlighted their roles as independent, mature, and responsible major powers, noting their joint efforts earlier this year to address pressing global challenges and hotspot issues.
During the meeting, Xi called for deeper strategic communication and mutual support to maintain steady bilateral ties.

He also emphasized the need for stronger China-Europe relations, promoting peace and stability globally.
Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to enhancing high-level exchanges with France and expanding cooperation in areas such as culture, education, youth engagement, and local-level collaborations to strengthen people-to-people ties.
The Chinese leader pointed to opportunities arising from China’s new round of reforms and opening up, initiated by the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee.
He encouraged leveraging mechanisms like the high-level economic and financial dialogue to deepen cooperation, resolve differences, and achieve mutual benefits.
President Macron recalled Xi’s state visit to France in May, marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Stressing the importance of strategic autonomy, Macron expressed France’s readiness to foster dialogue and cooperation with China in areas such as climate change, global AI governance, and other pressing issues.
The leaders also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis.
President Xi reiterated China’s consistent position on the conflict, emphasizing the need for de-escalation and constructive efforts towards a ceasefire.
Macron, highlighting global uncertainties, affirmed France’s commitment to implementing agreements between the two countries and advancing their relationship.
