Brasilia (TDI): Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Brasília on Tuesday for a state visit to Brazil, marking a pivotal moment in the relationship between the two nations.
The visit comes after his participation in the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit held in Rio de Janeiro.
Upon his arrival, President Xi was greeted by Rui Costa, Chief of Staff of the Brazilian Presidency, and other senior officials.
A local Batala band, featuring an all-female ensemble in vibrant attire, welcomed him with rhythmic drumming, adding a cultural touch to the occasion.
The streets of Brasília were lined with hundreds of overseas Chinese waving the national flag of China, expressing hope that Xi’s visit would further cement ties between the two countries.
In a statement before his arrival, President Xi expressed his eagerness to engage in meaningful discussions with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

He highlighted plans to enhance bilateral relations, align development strategies, and address pressing international and regional issues.
The visit holds symbolic significance as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil, which were formalized on August 15, 1974.
In a signed article published in “Folha de S. Paulo”, President Xi reflected on the resilience and growth of the bilateral relationship, describing it as a “forerunner” among ties between developing nations.
Brazil, the first Latin American country to forge a comprehensive strategic partnership with China, plays a pivotal role in China’s engagement with the Global South.

Xi emphasized the need to synergize China’s Belt and Road Initiative with Brazil’s development strategies and deepen cooperation in trade, green transformation, digital economy, and cultural exchange.
“China and Brazil must work together with other nations in the Global South to uphold common interests, address global challenges, and promote fair and equitable global governance,” Xi wrote in his article.
