ISLAMABAD (TDI): World Tourism Day is being celebrated across the globe, including Pakistan, highlighting the significance of tourism in promoting peace and understanding among cultures.
The day has been celebrated since 1970 following a resolution passed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The UNGA passed the resolution on the advice of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization.
The celebration of World Tourism Day this year revolves around the theme “Tourism and Peace.”

The International Tourism Investment Expo was held in Islamabad as part of the festivities, bringing together tourism-related companies and individuals from across the nation.
Participants expressed their commitment to enhancing tourism and cultural exchange in Pakistan.
Embassies from countries such as Malaysia, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan also took part in the expo, showcasing their own tourism offerings and fostering international cooperation in the sector.
Pakistan is emerging as a prime destination for tourists, thanks to its rich historical and religious sites, as well as stunning natural landscapes.

In a bid to promote tourism, the Pakistani government has implemented an open visa policy, allowing tourists from 126 countries to obtain visas within 48 hours.
This year, the country has witnessed a 30 % to 40% increase in domestic tourism, with foreign visitors contributing around 1.6 million USD to the economy.
