Bishkek (TDI): Kyrgyzstan, host of the 2026 edition of the World Nomad Games, has announced that the opening ceremony will be held in Bishkek on August 31, while the closing ceremony will take place on the shores of the scenic Lake Issyk-Kul on September 6.
The dates were confirmed by the organizing committee, which anticipates participants and guests from more than 89 countries. While the opening event will be held in the Kyrgyz capital, the main competitions are scheduled for Issyk-Kul, a resort area near the Kazakhstan border.
Kyrgyzstan previously hosted the inaugural three editions of the World Nomad Games in 2014, 2016, and 2018. Turkiye hosted the 2022 games, while Kazakhstan staged the 2024 edition. The event has steadily grown, highlighting Central Asian cultural traditions through sports involving horses, dogs, birds of prey, archery, wrestling, and other physical competitions.
Organizers emphasized that the games will demonstrate Kyrgyzstan’s role as “an international platform for cultural dialogue.” Earlier this month, President Sadyr Japarov extended invitations to cultural and sports delegations from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries to participate.
