Europe, 9 May 2024 (TDI): Every year on May 9, Europe Day is celebrated, which signifies cooperation, unity, and peace between European nations. The day marks the 74th celebration of the Schuman Declaration presented in 1950, a crucial proposal that was proposed by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman.
Robert Schuman transmitted his idea for the new framework of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war among European countries inconceivable. The Schuman Proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union.,
Europe Day is more than just a historical breakout; it portrays the principles of solidarity and harmony that have matured over times of shared obstacles and accomplishments. In its essence, Europe Day is the observance of the European Program, a continued effort to boost peace, cooperation, and coherence among European nations.
During the day, several countries extended their well-wishes to Europe. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey also delivered a message, expressing his sentiments, he said “I hereby would like to reiterate that we as Türkiye stand ready to cooperate towards a more prosperous, more collaborative and more transparent Europe, in which Türkiye takes its rightful place.”
Furthermore, the Finnish government expressed its views, “The EU is Finland’s most important political and economic frame of reference and community of values. Europe Day is one of the main symbols of the EU, alongside the flag, anthem, and motto.”
Moreover, France, Sweden, and Spain also conveyed their warm wishes on the event. The three countries expressed their anticipation for a more connected and prosperous Europe, aiming to achieve shared goals together.
Additionally, the Embassy of Pakistan in Belgium along with the delegation of European Union to Pakistan also conveyed their warm congratulations on the occasion.
