Washington DC, 16 August 2022 (TDI): The World Bank’s Africa chapter shared a video on how the world can achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The video was shared by the official Twitter account of the organization.
Supporting health represents a foundational investment in human capital and in economic growth—without good health, children are unable to go to school and adults are unable to go to work.

Roadmap by World Bank
As per the findings of the World Bank, promoting well-being is a fundamental investment in education and economic progress. Otherwise, children cannot attend school and adults cannot work. In the same vein, countries all over the world are attempting to limit the impact and spread of Covid-19.
Also, scientific proof from the Covid-19 outbreak makes it clearer than ever that national health systems ought to be better prepared and equipped. This is mandatory to provide medical assistance, especially to women, children, and adolescents.
The goal should be to achieve UHC all across the world. The World Bank is assisting nations in enhancing primary health care systems, lowering the financial risks associated with illness, and promoting equity.
The objective is to provide high-quality, inexpensive health services to everyone, regardless of the ability to pay. Moreover, the pandemic has posed a risk of undoing years of hard-won improvements in health and human capital outcomes. This is particularly in the case of the most vulnerable populations like women, children, and adolescents.
However, ending poverty and achieving UHC depends on ensuring that every woman and child has access to insurance. The goal of UHC is to guarantee that everyone has access to medical care without facing hardship.
World Bank and Universal Health Care (UHC)
The roadmap is critical for reaching the World Bank’s objectives of reducing absolute poverty and boosting general prosperity. UHC, therefore, serves as the inspiration for all of the World Bank’s investments in nutrition and health.
Furthermore, UHC will enable nations to maximize their most valuable resource; human capital. For WBG, continuing to support health is a fundamental and important determinant of economic growth and economic development.
Without it, children will not attend school and adults will not be able to work. Besides, the health sector is one of the largest economic sectors in the world and supports 50 million jobs, the vast bulk of which are held by women.
Through this video, the WBG claims to create awareness to support nations’ attempts to accomplish universal healthcare through bigger and more powerful primary health systems.
It also aims to ensure the provision of high-quality, reasonably priced health services to everyone regardless of their ability to pay—in line with its strategic vision for health, nourishment, and population.
