WHO working to eradicate polio-virus in Pakistan

Islamabad: 24th July 2021 (TDI):  The World Health Organization announced that the United Arab Emirates will be providing US$ 23 million in funding for polio campaigns so that polio can be eradicated from all over Pakistan.

Polio Eradication Initiative will enable the polio program to maintain campaigns monthly, the aim is to target 16 million children who are at the highest risk in Pakistan. The United Arab Emirates has been contributing US$ 200 million to polio eradication since 2014. In 2020 it was reported that 15 million children under 5 years received care and vaccines through repeated polio campaigns. Along with this, all frontline workers in 84 districts got personal protective equipment and skills to protect themselves against the covid-19. The goal is to reduce the spread of poliovirus in Pakistan so that it becomes one of those countries that are known as polio-free.
