WHO Representative promotes health and patient safety in Pakistan

Islamabad, 22 September 2021 (TDI): On Friday, WHO Representative in Pakistan, Dr. Palitha Mahipala attended an event during the occasion of World Patients Safety Day (WPSD) 2021, to recognize patient safety as a global health priority in Pakistan.

The entire world celebrates this day and the main theme for WPSD is Safe maternal and newborn care. This day is celebrated to promote actions for safe and respectful childbirth. Moreover, WHO encourages all the stakeholders to work together and share engagement to promote the safe treatments of patients globally. The main slogan is to “Act now for safe maternal and newborn care.”

On the special occasion, he commented that “WHO supports Pakistan to achieve the goal of WPSD which is to increase the safety of patients at the point of care”. He further added “We are ready to walk an extra mile to support Pakistan in achieving this goal. The present need is to allot enough resources for reasonable access to quality and safe maternal and newborn health services.”

WHO in Pakistan organized this seminar. Speaking on the day, the head of Mission in Pakistan – Dr. Palitha recognizes patient safety and health priority in the current time. He said the patient safety day is being celebrated for the third time worldwide to promote the importance of safety whilst the main objective is to decrease all the unnecessary risks and damages to women and newborns during labor. Furthermore, he talked about boosting sustainable actions for safe childbirth. Dr. Palitha said, “It is high time to increase efforts to take crucial and viable action for strengthening support and capacity to health workers. He added that it is important for safe maternal and newborn care and encouraging respectful care for safe childbirth.”
