Role of Water Aid to overcome water crisis
Water Aid stated its global vision as:
“Our vision is of a world where everyone, everywhere has safe and sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene.”
The aim is to help people enhance their access to clean water, hygiene, and sanitation. By collaborating with partners, Water Aid made a huge difference over the last 40 years. But the overall progress is disgracefully slow.
In every 10 individuals, 1 person doesn’t have access to a basic supply of clean water. One in every five individuals doesn’t have decent toilets. Almost a third seem unable to wash their hands with soap at home. Almost 800 children are dying every day due to these reasons.
The Sustainable Development Goals guarantee that by 2030, everyone, everywhere would have access to clean and durable water, basic hygiene, and sanitation.
However, Water Aid needs to bring a significant change in its ambition and strategy to fulfill its goals.
New Global Strategy
Water Aid adopted a new Global Strategy by changing its approach, partnerships, and ambitions. The new Global Strategy is for the next decade from 2022 to 2032. The main aim of the strategy is:
“Ending the water, sanitation, and hygiene crisis together – for everyone, everywhere.”
Water Aid reported that:
“In the past, we and our partners have transformed the lives of tens of millions of people by bringing clean water, decent toilets, and hygiene. Now, we seek to catalyze change that will deliver these essentials to hundreds of millions more.”
“Together with our partners and supporters, we will work with determination towards the day when our work is no longer needed.”
