Wabtec Corp supports modernization of Pakistan railways

A delegate from Wabtec Corporation visited Pakistan Embassy in US to discuss modernization of railways sector.

Washington D.C., 20 June 2022 (TDI): According to Pakistani Diplomat in the USA, Masood Khan, Global representative of General Electric, Wabtec, will build an alliance with the government of Pakistan to modernize Pakistan Railways.

In a tweet, the diplomat shared that the team from Webtec will visit Pakistan soon. He welcomed their interests.

The Ambassador stated that the government of Pakistan stands committed to providing all possible facilitation and support to the international businesses for mutually profitable ventures in Pakistan.


Earlier,  the company provided 153 locomotives to Pakistan railways and assisted the country in improving its engineering and rail services countrywide. Furthermore, the delegation has shown keen interest in extending its partnership with Pakistan to meet its locomotive requirements.

Investment opportunity

Furthermore, the Ambassador said that Pakistan is engaging in offering substantial investment opportunities for foreign investors.

Wabtec is a leading global provider of equipment, systems, digital solutions, and value-added services for the freight and transit rail sectors.

“While we greatly appreciate the existing level of cooperation between Wabtec and Pakistan Railways, particularly in engineering and rail services, we look forward to benefiting from the company’s expertise in the modernization of railways network and indigenization of locomotive manufacturing in Pakistan,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador emphasized the central role of the railways’ network in the country’s transportation system. In addition, he stressed that the growing economy was creating tremendous opportunities in different fields of the railway sector.

Future of Pakistan Railways

The delegation briefed the Ambassador about their decades-long business experience in Pakistan. They talked about the areas of cooperation with Pakistan Railways, and the plans for meeting the fleet requirements of the country.

In addition, they apprised the Ambassador about the qualitative edge the company maintains. It includes digitalization of locomotives, control and safety, signal traffic, trip optimization, and use of hybrid technology for powering them.

The delegate also appraised their role regarding the qualitative edge maintained by the company. They highlighted their role in digitalizing locomotives, control, safety, trip optimization,  and digital tools for safe travel measures.
