Lima/Abu Dhabi, 29 March 2022 (TDI): The Peruvian and Emirati officials held the second meeting of the UAE-Peru Political Consultations Committee online.

The General Director of Africa, Middle East, and Gulf Countries of the Foreign Ministry of Peru, Ambassador Jaime Cacho-Sousa, led the Peruvian delegation. Whereas, the Emirati delegation was led by Dr. Saghira Al Ahbabi.

Dr. Saghira Al Ahbabi is the Director of the American Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE.

The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Peru, Mohamed Al Shamsi, the Consul General of Peru in Dubai, and SDR Minister, Marco Antonio Santivañez participated.

Likewise, specialist officials in the areas of Economic Promotion, International Cooperation, Science and Technology, and Multilateral Affairs took part.

The delegates discussed issues on the bilateral agenda. Moreover, they exchanged opinions on multiple multilateral and international issues.

The Peruvian Foreign Ministry expressed that “the meeting was a space to address the bilateral agenda; dialogue with our first commercial partner in the region; and exchange opinions on multilateral issues.”

Furthermore, the officials highlighted the excellent organization of the World Expo2020 in Dubai and the impressive participation of Peru. The visitors to the Peruvian pavilion are estimated to be more than 1.7 million people at the event.

They agreed to explore bilateral cooperation projects in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Desalination, Renewable Energies, among others. In conclusion, they reached an understanding to follow up on Peru’s interest in deepening trade relations with the UAE.

UAE-Peru Relations

The United Arab Emirates and Peru have good economic and political relations. Previously, the UAE and Peru’s first meeting of the UAE-Peru Political Consultations Committee was held in February 2019.

Both parties discussed the means of strengthening the cooperation and developing the bilateral relations between the two countries to help achieve their common interests.

That meeting concluded with both sides stressing the necessity of expanding their joint bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
