Hanoi, 29 November 2021 (TDI): The Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chin addressed the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit on Friday. The 13th ASEM was hosted and organized by Cambodia.

13th ASEM SUMMIT

Due to the pandemic situation, the ASEM Summit was held virtually. Member states convened to enhance integration in the region and beyond. During the address, the Vietnamese Premier called for equitable Covid-19 vaccines access to the whole world.

He also appreciated the Asian as well as European leaders over their past support to tackle Covid-19 Pandemic. The developing countries were given assistance in the form of medical supplies including Covid-19 vaccines, drugs, as well as other relevant equipment from the EU and Asian countries.

Additionally, Prime Minister Pham asked for further assistance from the developed nations for financial resources and high technologies for the developing world. Vietnam also affirmed its commitment to continue to resolve non-traditional security matters. He also stressed over enhancing joint efforts against climate change.

The meeting gave a platform to all state heads to deliberate upon issues pertaing to regional and global challenges. Pham Minh Chin also enlightened the attendees regarding Vietnam’s efforts in maintaining peace and stability. Vietnam is working to promote freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, as well.

He also highlighted the risk of complications in security situations in the region through any unilateral decision by any state. The theme of the 13th ASEM Summit was “Strengthening Multilateralism for Shared Growth”. It was aimed to achieve and enhance Asia-Europe connectivity and maintain cooperation in ASEM.

While the Vietnamese Prime Minister’s speech at the 13th ASEM Summit underscored the country’s proactive Foreign Policy to integrate with the world. Furthermore, Vietnam is also promoting multilateralism through reaffirmed commitment for ASEM.
