Ha Noi, 30 October 2021 (TDI): The President of Vietnam, Nguyễn Xuân Phúc discussed United Nations and African Union (UN-AU) cooperation in a virtual high-level open debate, earlier this week.
His Kenyan counterpart, Uhuru Kenyatta invited him in the discussion. Uhuru holds Presidency for UN Security Council (UNSC) for the month of October 2021.
President Phúc proposed to improve self-resilience to deal with internal affairs and trust building in the discussion. He also stressed over the need of intensified efforts to implement the ‘Initiative on Silencing the Guns in Africa by 2030’.
The UN Agenda 2030 and Africa’s Agenda 2063 on Sustainable Development initiatives were also forged by Vietnamese President.
Vietnam also wished to become an observer in African Union and suggested to expand regional cooperation and reduction of conflicts. UNSC at event also adopted Presidential statement to strengthen cooperation UN and the AU.
