Tehran, 21 May 2024 (TDI): Following the Iranian President’s demise, the Supreme Leader of Iran, Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei has announced appointments on 20th May 2024. As per the announcement, Vice President Mokhber will act as interim president and head the Executive Branch.
Under this appointment, he will be responsible for assisting in the election of the next president. The elections must be completed within a time limit of no more than fifty days.
Subsequently, elections have been scheduled on the 28th of June, 2024. For the said purpose, the interim President Mokhber will work in collaboration with the members of both the legislative and judiciary.
“Under Article 131 of the Constitution, Vice-President Mokhber will be the head of the Executive Branch,” said Sayyid Ali Khamenei.
Additionally, the Iranian cabinet has designated veteran negotiator of Iran’s nuclear program Ali Bagheri as acting foreign minister, announced the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iranian President’s Demise
These developments follow in the wake of the martyrdom of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister, Amirabdollahian on 19th May 2024. The entourage was traveling back from Azerbaijan when the helicopter crashed in a hilly area, due to poor weather conditions.
Unfortunately, the chopper crash claimed not only their lives but also that of the President’s aides. Early on Monday, reports confirmed that everyone on board had passed away.

Iran holds a significant influence in the dynamics of the Middle East. It openly opposes and denounces Israeli occupation of Gaza and Palestine. Thus, a lot will depend on the election of the new Iranian President following the Iranian President’s demise.
Resultantly, it shall fall upon the new Iranian president to consensually decide with the Iranian establishment on navigating the Middle East crisis. The world shall watch closely at the new Iranian President while provocations and atrocities of Israel against Gazans perpetuate.
