Asunción, 8 October 2021 (TDI): The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay, Marcelo Scappini, and also the General Director of the Cabinet, Julio Duarte Van Humbeck, received the Members of the Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS), on 7 October.
The Ministry of Paraguay announced that the Mission will observe the municipal elections on 10 October, the Chief of the Mission Juan Pablo Corlazzoli and his team were also thankful for the creation of institutions that organize the elections and also for the joint work with the local authorities.
Vice-Minister Scappini mentioned that Paraguay is always open for electoral observation. He stated that it contributes to maintaining control by guaranteeing the transparency, legality, and legitimacy of the electoral process, and this is beneficial because it strengthens the process and the democracy. The Electoral Observation Mission can only be carried if the State requests it.
According to OAS, the Mission will analyze the electoral organization, electronic vote implementation, electoral justice, electoral politic financing, the political participation of women, the political participation of indigenous and afro-descendant citizens, and will follow up the recommendations of past missions.
During their time in Paraguay, the mission will meet with electoral authorities, government officials, diverse political forces representatives, to hear their opinions and then will deliver its preliminary report with observations and recommendations.
