Tashkent (TDI): Uzbekistan has entered a new phase in its energy strategy as construction begins on the country’s first small-capacity nuclear power plant.
The announcement was made during the INNOPROM. Central Asia industrial exhibition, organized in Tashkent.
The event, hosted at the Central Asian Expo Uzbekistan center, spans over 18,000 square meters and has attracted more than ten thousand delegates from Russia, neighboring Central Asian nations, China, India, and other countries.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the exhibition pavilions and stressed the significance of innovative business ideas and economic collaboration.

He said that the forum serves as a platform to advance new projects and enhance long-term ties.
On the margins of the event, President Mirziyoyev received a Russian delegation led by First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.
Both sides reviewed progress on bilateral deals made during Putin’s trip to Uzbekistan in May last year and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration across various sectors.

A main topic of talks was Uzbekistan’s nuclear energy project. Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev said that all legal formalities have been completed and that construction could officially start within the year.
When the leadership of Uzbekistan returns to the topic of a large nuclear power plant, we will already have suggestions ready, not only on the future facilities’ designs but also on financing and local manufacturing, he said.
