Tashkent, 6 August 2022 (TDI): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan strongly condemned the attack on the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the United Kingdom. The attack on the embassy took place on August 4, 2022.

Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan released a statement following the attack on the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United Kingdom. The statement states,
“We consider absolutely unacceptable any actions that pose a threat to the life and health of members of diplomatic missions.
We call for a comprehensive investigation of this incident and bringing all those involved to justice.
The Uzbek side expresses its support for brotherly Azerbaijan in ensuring the security and protection of its citizens abroad.”
Attack on the Embassy
On Thursday, a radical religious group attacked and occupied the embassy of Azerbaijan in London. Several men stormed the embassy building and climbed up the balcony with a ladder while chanting Shiite slogans.
They waved the Shiite flags on the balcony of the Embassy and threw the flag of Azerbaijan. This act enraged a lot of people on social media, who urged the officials in London to take action against such action.
No injuries were reported following the incident, however, eight men were arrested on suspicion of trespass and criminal damage.

Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan Relations
Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have had deep-rooted diplomatic relations since both states recognized each other as diplomatic partners in 1995. Since then, they have formalized their ties by opening embassies in each other’s capitals.
Both states consider each other important friends and partners and hence support each other on different platforms. There are many diasporas living in each other’s countries.
Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are part of important global, regional multilateral organizations where they support each other at their regional and global standpoints. The recent visits of officials of both states have boosted the diplomatic relations between them.
