Utility Stores Being Restructured, Not Closed: Minister

Lahore, 25 August 2024 (TDI): Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain has said that utility stores are being restructured to pass on the subsidy to deserving people more effectively and transparently.

He made these remarks while talking to the media after inaugurating the 9th Colour and Chem Exhibition at the Expo Centre in Lahore.

“The government had received complaints that the subsidy on utility goods was not reaching the deserving people. Some officers and employees are involved in embezzlement, and therefore, an overhaul of the department is necessary.”

Tanveer’s remarks come days after it was reported that the government was going to shut down Utility Stores Corporation in the country.

The minister further said the government has overcome inflation thanks to its positive measures.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the government has reduced from 38 to 16 percent,” he said, adding that the incumbent government was taking measures to simplify tax and restore the confidence of the public.

The minister said the price of household commodities were in control the economy was well on track.

“The economy is back on track, it will take off as soon as the political unrest is over,” he added.

Rana Tanveer said that PM Shehbaz is prioritizing agriculture and the development of this sector is only possible by adopting modern technology.

“During PM Shehbaz’s recent visit to China, Pakistan and Chinese governments inked agreements for the training of domestic agricultural experts and stakeholders by Chinese authorities,” he said, adding that this initiative will help improve Pakistan’s agriculture.
