Karachi, 10 June 2021 (TDI): In an official statement on Thursday, the Pak Navy DGPR said, “USS MONTEREY (CG-61) of US Navy visited Karachi Port.
US and Pakistan Navy ships participated in the Passage Exercise wherein various seamanship and warfare drills were conducted. The visit of US Ship will further strengthen bilateral relations between both the navies.”
The naval forces of Pakistan and the USA have been working together for maritime security in the region. In 2019, the US Naval Ship Mason paid a visit to the Karachi Port in which the naval staff of the two countries conducted various activities and expressed hope for the visit to strengthen the Pak-US relations.
On Tuesday, the USS Monterey (CG-611) arrived at the Karachi Port for a two-day logistic port visit to conduct scheduled maintenance. The US Embassy Chargé d’affaires, Lesslie Viguerie, met with the crew on board. He expressed his hope for the strong military-to-military ties between Pakistan and the USA to be effective for the prosperity and stability of South Asia.
The commanding officer, Captain Joseph Baggett, shared that the Monterey crew was excited to visit Pakistan. He further emphasized the need for the two countries to work in collaboration with their regional partners to reinforce their commitment to maritime security.
The visit was quite event-filled and productive for the naval forces of both countries and is expected to further contribute to the strengthening of ties between the USA and Pakistan.
The visit complied with the preventive measures by the CDC, the Department of Defense, and Pakistan’s COVID-19 alleviation measures.
