Morocco, like its neighbours in the region, faces the issue of utilizing water resources in a sustainable way. Thus, the rising water scarcity is causing more strain on resources in Morocco and the region.
Morocco’s water shortage is a national issue, given its expanding population, and fast urbanization. In addition to this is its growing economy, which includes industrial expansion consuming a lot of water.
The H2O Program
Acknowledging freshwater as an issue of national security for Morocco and its neighbours in the area, USAID has established cutting-edge and sustainable water management procedures in Morocco.
Notably, USAID H2O Training Program incorporates state-of-the-art alternatives to meet pressing water requirements in Morocco and the neighbourhood.
Also, it is enhancing the skills of the young people of Morocco through a practical and market-oriented training program at a newly built water training hub.
Moreover, the H2O collaboration works together with the government as well as commercial sectors to offer unique equipment and training inside the industry by creating a new water management curriculum.
Likewise, the program incorporates aspects from several disciplines. It addresses the difficulties of enhancing the management of water, the availability of water, and water quality.
The training started in 2017 and focused on women trainees. In the program, 91 young individuals participated and graduated between November 2018 and February 2022. 78 % of the graduates were female.
The initial batch of female trainees’ achievements assisted later recruiting attempts. As these alumni went to talk to other students, they promoted the message amongst their classmates that H2O Maghreb is a welcoming workplace for women.
To foster such an atmosphere, the program hired women as instructors. Also, it enhanced gender awareness throughout the program and utilized gender-neutral terminology.
