USAID Delivers Food Aid to Uzbekistan

-

Tashkent (TDI): The United States, through its Agency for International Development (USAID), has dispatched 131 tons of food aid to Uzbekistan, valued at over $435,000.

The shipment consists of a nutritious mix of vegetables and legumes, aimed at supporting more than 33,000 individuals across 145 facilities, including centers for tuberculosis patients, orphanages, and psychiatric institutions.

Anjali Kaur, USAID’s Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Bureau of Asia, highlighted the agency’s ongoing efforts to address food insecurity in vulnerable communities.

“At USAID, we work alongside our partners to deliver life-saving food assistance to the most vulnerable in Uzbekistan. By combating malnutrition and ensuring access to safe, nutritious food, we aim to empower individuals to lead healthier, more productive lives, contributing to a stable and resilient world,” she said.

Since 2010, USAID’s International Food Relief Partnership program has provided 1,560 tons of food aid to Uzbekistan, amounting to around $4.5 million.

The current food donation will be distributed in collaboration with the American non-profit Resource and Policy Exchange and the international charitable foundation Sog’lom Avlod Uchun.

The International Food Relief Partnership is part of the broader U.S. government initiative ‘Food for Peace,’ launched by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954, demonstrating USAID’s long-standing commitment to addressing hunger and malnutrition.
