US Urges Peaceful Somalian Electoral Process

Washington, 21 September 2021 (TDI): Edward Price, Spokesperson of the United States Department, released a press statement regarding the recent developments in Somalia on 20 September.

Edward Price stated that the United States urged the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, and the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Hussein Roble, to uphold their commitments to conclude the nation’s electoral process quickly.

Price stated that cooperation among Somalian leaders, both President Mohamed Farmaajo and Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein, is essential to ensure that the country completes the ongoing electoral process.

Edward Price mentions that the dispute between Farmaajo and Hussein risks complicating this process and this complicated electoral process needs a solution immediately and peacefully. He shared the United States’ concern due to the delays in the elections which are behind schedule for months. Also, he affirmed that the US welcomes both sides’ commitment to the electoral process.

The press statement finalizes with the United States call on the President and Prime Minister to avoid further provocative actions and solve their disagreement over personnel appointments and respective authorities peacefully.
