Washington DC, 30 March 2022 (TDI): Since the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan when the United States pulled back its troops in 2020, a humanitarian crisis has emerged.

The international community and the United States are inspecting the political rule of the Taliban closely. The Taliban have restricted the Afghan residents’ access to international and independent media resources.

Such restriction has caused an alarm for media outlets present in different states. Media outlets such as the Voice of America, the British Broadcasting Corporation, and Deutsche Welle have been stopped.

They have been stopped from reporting, broadcasting, or publishing anything within Afghanistan. The Taliban have provided restrictive and limiting guidelines for their people.

Human Rights and Freedom of Expression

The United States is adamant to fight for freedom of expression and wants journalists to operate with complete freedom with no fear of violence or attack. The United States has extended its support to freedom fighters, human rights defenders, and the media.

Education, shelter, human rights, and freedom of expression are every person’s basic fundamental human rights, regardless of nationality. These are not Western-born values that should have any opposition.

Human rights and the basic needs of humans are the foundation of a peaceful and prosperous state. The Taliban claim to achieve such a society but cannot provide the rights.

The United States urges them to stop restricting their freedom of speech. The United States stands with the Afghans and extends its support to protect them from any wrongdoings.

Most recently, the United States condemned the Taliban’s decision to close girls’ schools on 23 March. They want the people there to have access to education which is a basic necessity of life.

Taliban has also restricted women from traveling alone, they may only travel when a male is with them. The Taliban have failed to uphold their promise that they would rule with an open mind, a promise made to the international community and the United States.
