Washington (TDI): The United States has urged both Israel and Iran to cease their retaliatory strikes, while pledging support for Israel if Tehran decides to escalate.
A senior American official stated, “This should be the end of this direct exchange of fire between Israel and Iran. Should Iran choose to respond, we are fully prepared to defend Israel, and there will be consequences.”
The official described recent Israeli airstrikes on Iranian military targets as “targeted” and “precise,” designed to prevent future attacks. The U.S. has appealed to influential nations to press Iran to end its strikes on Israel to prevent further escalation.
The U.S. has communicated its message to Iran through both “direct” and “indirect” channels, with the American official indicating a broader diplomatic initiative, according to media reports.
“In the coming days, we are prepared to lead an effort to secure an end to the conflict in Lebanon through an agreement that ensures civilians on both sides of the Blue Line can safely return to their homes,” the official said.
“We are also prepared to lead efforts toward a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the return of hostages without delay.”

The Israeli military confirmed on Saturday that it had conducted precision airstrikes on Iranian military sites following Iran’s extensive ballistic missile barrage on October 1.
