Panama City, 14 September 2022 (TDI): The US Undersecretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment at the Department of State, José W. Hernandez visited Panama. The Panamanian government officials and the US Embassy in Panama paid him a warm welcome.

Undersecretary of State Fernandez met the officials of Panama. The areas of discussion included ocean conservation and clean energy.
Bilateral talks for digital connectivity, supply chain management, and the US investment in the maritime sector of Panama were also held. The US Embassy also announced that Undersecretary will also initiate talks on climate change, food security, and malnutrition.
Undersecretary J. W. Fernandez also thanked everyone for the welcome. He added that his efforts will ensure strong maritime cooperation between the American and Panamanian sides.
He also added about the expansion of economic cooperation and removal of bottlenecks in the mutual trade’s supply chain.
After the potential engagement of Undersecretary Fernandez at the US-Mexico High-Level Economic Dialogue (DEAN), he visited Panama. He will discuss the important developments between Panama and the US to develop advanced technologies and digital aspects in the supply chain.
Undersecretary Fernandez met the Panamanian ministers for the environment, trade, foreign affairs, Science and Technology, and commerce. There was a focus on the issues related to Panama Canal in the meetings.

Meeting with Panama’s Cabinet members
Undersecretary Fernandez held meetings with important members of the Panamanian cabinet. The meeting aimed at the importance of expanding economic cooperation.
The Foreign Minister of Panama, Erika Mouynes also met the US Undersecretary and discussed bilateral interests. Environmental security and renewable energy along with the sustainability of maritime resources also came under discussion.
The collective efforts regarding the “Eastern Tropical Marine Corridor (CMAR)”, protection of oceans, and transparency of marine governance were also assured.
The US Undersecretary also appreciated the acquisition of the 5G Telecommunication technology by Panama and announced support for it.
