Washington DC, 3 May 2023 (TDI): In a statement released today by Matthew Millar, United States (US) Department Spokesperson, the US and the Republic of Türkiye have jointly imposed sanctions on two financial facilitators for designated terrorist groups Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and Katibat al-Tawhid wal-Jihad, both of which operate in Syria.
In this way, the US has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to combating terrorism and supporting its allies in the region.
The statement highlights that this announcement is a continuation of the joint action taken on January 5 that disrupted critical nodes of a key ISIS financial facilitation network. The US remains committed to working closely with its Turkish partners in degrading terrorist financing networks across the region.

As part of this commitment, the Treasury Department has designated Omar Alsheak and Kubilay Sari pursuant to Executive Order 13224, which targets terrorist groups, their supporters, and associated assets.
This action is a clear message to all those who support or engage in terrorism that the US and its allies will not tolerate their actions.

In the same vein, the Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance, together with the Ministry of Interior, has also implemented an asset freeze against these terrorist facilitators.
This coordinated effort between the US and its Turkish partners underscores the importance of working together to disrupt the flow of funds to terrorist groups worldwide.
Thus, the US continues to stand with its allies in the region in the fight against terrorism and will not waiver in its commitment to protecting innocent civilians from the harm and destruction wrought by these groups.
“Today’s action underscores our commitment to collaborating with our Turkish partners in degrading terrorist financing networks across the region,” the US Department Spokesperson further added.
By imposing sanctions and targeting financial facilitators who enable terrorist groups to perpetuate violence and instability, the US and Türkiye are sending a clear message that those who support terrorism will face “consequences.”
