Antony Blinken participates in the Americas Civil Society Forum

Los Angeles, 9 June 2022 (TDI): Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, attended the Summit Americas Civil Society Forum to emphasize the importance of civil society in promoting democracy and holding governments responsible for their citizens needs.

He reaffirmed that the United States will continue to assist civil society’s efforts to improve American societies.

During the discussion, Secretary Antony Blinken stated that the countries will always have political divisions.

He expressed that the Americas have democratically elected governments on the left, right, and center. But regardless of political differences, if the basics are in order, the countries will be able to collaborate quite effectively.

In the discussion, he also stated that whether on the left, right, or center, there is a shared challenge for every single democracy in the hemisphere. That is, to provide concrete outcomes for the people.

Likewise, he said that changes in governance are merely the result of people losing faith in government whatever the present existing administration in each country is, the ability to achieve tangible and concrete results is what matters the most.

Moreover, the US Secretary also participated in the Media Summit of the Americas. During that event, he focused on Media Freedom and discussed the threat of disinformation and misinformation.

IX Summit of the Americas

The United States is hosting the Ninth Summit of the Americas for the week of June 6-10 in Los Angeles, California.

Meanwhile, the main theme of the Summit is “Building a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future” for the American hemisphere.

Meetings of sub-regional working groups focused on summit political agreements were on the agenda for the Summit.

Health, the climate, clean energy, digital revolution, and democratic governance are just a few highlights of the discussion. These priorities have been the focus of thematic seminars.
