US Remains Top Market for Pakistani Exports

Islamabad (TDI): The United States has once again emerged as the largest buyer of Pakistani goods during the first eleven months of the 2024–25 fiscal year, according to figures released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Between July and May, Pakistan’s exports to the US were valued at $5.55 billion, compared to $5 billion in the same period last year. That marks an increase of 11%, making the US Pakistan’s most significant export partner so far this year.

China held the second spot, though Pakistani exports to the country declined. The numbers fell from $2.56 billion last year to $2.27 billion this year, an 11% drop.

In third place was the United Kingdom, where exports reached $1.98 billion, up slightly from $1.86 billion during the same period a year earlier.

Other key markets also showed mixed trends. Exports to United Arab Emirates climbed to $1.97 billion, from $1.88 billion last year.

Exports to Germany showed a healthy increase, with figures climbing to $1.55 billion, up from $1.38 billion in the previous year.

Trade with the Netherlands also improved, as shipments reached $1.38 billion, compared to $1.27 billion earlier.

In the case of Italy, growth was marginal. Exports ticked up slightly to $1.04 billion, just above last year’s $1.03 billion.

As for Spain, the numbers edged up as well, from $1.33 billion to $1.35 billion, reflecting steady demand in the European market.

Two neighboring countries stood out for sharp rises. Exports to Afghanistan surged from $512 million to $723 million, while trade with Bangladesh grew from $600 million to $728 million.

Exports to France also picked up, reaching $520 million from $465 million a year earlier. In contrast, Belgium saw a small drop, down to $498 million from $507 million last year.

The data shows that while traditional partners remain strong, regional and European markets are becoming increasingly important in Pakistan’s export landscape.
