Washington D.C, 2 June 2022 (TDI): US President Joe Biden announced an additional security assistance package for Ukraine, continuing its full-fledged support for the war-torn country.
The Assistance amounts to $700 Million worth of military and security support. It is part of $40 billion in new funding to enhance the US response to the war in Ukraine.
The US Congress approved the Additional Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2022 with broad bipartisan support. Afterward, President Joe Biden signed the act into law on 21 May.
The law provides military assistance, $8 billion in drawdown authority, and another $10 billion in additional security assistance for Ukraine.
Furthermore, the act also provides financial and military support for the countries impacted by the War in Ukraine. These include Ukraine’s neighbors including Moldova, Poland, and the Baltics, which are hosting Ukrainian refugees and facing the Russian threat.
In addition, the new package demonstrates the US resolve to increase security, economic, and humanitarian support to Ukraine.
According to the Secretary of State Antony Blinken, US military assistance will “strengthen Ukraine’s position to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, secure victories on the battlefield, and ultimately strengthen Ukraine’s position at the negotiating table.”
He further proclaimed that “The United States, together with our Allies and partners, will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.”
Announcing the assistance package, President Joe Biden said it will help Ukraine effectively repel Russian attacks.
He said, “This new package will arm them with new capabilities and advanced weaponry, including HIMARS with battlefield munitions.”
“The United States will stand with our Ukrainian partners and continue to provide Ukraine with weapons and equipment to defend itself,” said Biden.
