Washington D.C., 15 May 2023 (TDI): Secretary of the United States (US), Antony Blinken, spoke today with the Foreign Minister of Morocco, Nasser Bourita, to discuss regional and global developments, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to further strengthening the bilateral security and economic partnership between the US and Morocco.
During the call, Secretary Blinken commended King Mohamed VI for his crucial voice in advancing regional peace and his leadership in promoting a secure and prosperous future for Israelis and Palestinians. The Secretary and Foreign Minister Bourita also underscored the importance of the Negev Forum, recognizing its role in fostering cooperation and dialogue in the region.
Furthermore, both leaders reaffirmed the significance of full adherence to the recent ceasefire in Israel and Gaza. Secretary Blinken expressed the US’s unwavering support for peace and stability in the region and urged all parties to work towards a sustainable resolution.

The conversation between Secretary Blinken and the Moroccan Foreign Minister also touched upon the pressing issue of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. The US Secretary stressed the urgent need to find a solution to the conflict in Ukraine that aligns with the principles outlined in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2254.
Additionally, the Secretary highlighted the importance of addressing the conflict in Syria and underscored the need for a solution consistent with UNSCR 2254. Secretary Blinken expressed the US commitment to work with international partners to bring about a peaceful resolution that respects the rights and aspirations of the Syrian people.

In further discussions, Secretary Blinken affirmed the full support of the US for the UN Personal Envoy of Secretary-General Staffan de Mistura. He praised de Mistura’s efforts in intensifying the UN process on Western Sahara, emphasizing the pursuit of an enduring and dignified political solution that serves the interests of the people of Western Sahara and the region as a whole.
Secretary Blinken concluded the call by reaffirming the deep-rooted friendship between the US and Morocco and expressing his commitment to advancing the shared values of peace, security, and prosperity.
