Washington, 20 December 2023 (TDI): United States Secretary Antony J. Blinken spoke with the Foreign Minister of Egypt Sameh Shoukry to assure the bilateral partnership on a broad range of shared priorities. Both the US-Egypt have met on a consensus on the establishment of an independent Palestine State.
Furthermore, Secretary Blinken has deeply appreciated for allowing the massive volume of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip by crossing the Rafah border. In this sense, the release of hostages and the safe cross-border of Americans were also in line with the conversation.
Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken expressed sincere appreciation for the crucial role played by Egypt in advancing humanitarian efforts and fostering regional stability. The acknowledgment was made during a diplomatic conversation with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.
Moreover, he highlighted Egypt’s instrumental role in enhancing the flow of humanitarian aid and commercial goods to the Palestinian population in Gaza.
The country’s commitment to facilitating the release of hostages and ensuring the secure cross-border exit of U.S. and other foreign nationals via Rafah was particularly lauded.
Egypt’s economy is in shattering position and the war in Gaza are the two prominent electoral issues. In this regard, General Abdul Fateh Sisi has taken over as an elected president with an 89.6% approval rating.
Meanwhile, the US adopted multiple CBMs (Confidence Building Measures) to wind down the atrocities between Hamas-Israel with the kind assistance of regional and global leaders.
Both leaders emphatically rejected any forced displacement of Palestinians and emphasized the importance of taking concrete steps to safeguard the well-being of the civilian population.
In addition to addressing immediate concerns, the officials also discussed the necessity of ongoing close coordination regarding developments in Gaza. Secretary Blinken and Minister Shoukry reaffirmed their commitment to working together on shared bilateral objectives, promoting stability, and fostering positive outcomes in the region.
