Washington, 6 October 2022 (TDI): US Defence Secretary Lloyd James Austin hosts Army Chief of Pakistan General Qamar Javed Bajwa. The meeting between the two was held in the Pentagon on 5 October 2022.

During the meeting, the US Defence Secretary and COAS of Pakistan discussed long-standing defense partnerships and issues related to the areas of mutual interest.

US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin also highlighted the 75th anniversary of relations between the US and Pakistan.

Meetings with US Officials

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa also met National Security Adviser Jacob Jeremiah Sullivan and Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Ruth Sherman.

During the meetings, matters of mutual interest, regional security situations, and bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed.

COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa thanked the US officials for their support during the crisis of recent floods. Moreover, he acknowledged that the assistance from “our global partners shall be vital for rescue/rehabilitation of the flood victims in Pakistan”.

Address to Pakistani Diplomats

Before meeting the US Defence Secretary and other senior officials of the US, the Army Chief of Pakistan visited the Pakistan Embassy in Washington.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa had had lunch there.

Moreover, he addressed a large number of Pakistani diplomats in the embassy, before lunch.

During the address, he mentioned that rebuilding the country’s fragile economy should be the top concern of all sections of society.

Moreover, he remarked that the nation would be unable to fulfill its goals without a healthy economy.

Furthermore, the army chief reminded the audience, “There could be no diplomacy without a strong economy.”

The Army Chief of Pakistan is on a 5-day visit to Washington. On this tour, he also met the UN Military Advisor. Moreover, he is expected to meet the Director of National Intelligence and the Director of the Central Investigation Agency (CIA).
