Washington DC, 6 September 2022 (TDI): Counselor at the United States Department of State, Derek Chollet is visiting the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan from September 5-10.

During the trip, he will emphasize the significance of the cooperation of the United States with the UAE and Pakistan in achieving shared objectives.

Aenda for Visit to UAE 

In the UAE, Counselor Chollet will reaffirm the strong US-UAE partnership and discuss ways to broaden and intensify bilateral cooperation on a wide range of issues.

He will consult with senior UAE officials on a variety of regional concerns.

Agenda for Visit to Pakistan 

Counselor Chollet will lead a US interagency delegation to Pakistan to meet with senior government officials, civil society, and private sector leaders, to reaffirm US commitment to Pakistan in the wake of the catastrophic floods.

The Counselor and his delegation will discuss recently announced US assistance. He will also emphasize on US desire to continue working with Pakistan to mitigate the devastation caused by recent floods and torrential downpours.

While in Pakistan, Chollet and his delegation will commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations and discuss a wide range of issues.

The issues include strengthening trade and investment ties, advancing bilateral health cooperation, working together to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis, and expanding people-to-people ties.

US-Pakistan Diplomatic Relations

Following Pakistan’s independence in 1947, the United States established diplomatic ties with Pakistan.

Both states collaborate closely with Pakistan on a wide range of issues, including Afghanistan’s stabilization and counterterrorism, energy, trade and investment, health, sustainable energy, and tackling the climate problem.

The United States is one of Pakistan’s greatest sources of foreign direct investment and its largest export market. Moreover, trade and investment relations between the US and Pakistan continue to expand.

The US government supports this growth by organizing business-to-business trade delegations, providing technical assistance, and promoting business opportunities for US firms to develop US and Pakistan commercial partnerships.

US and UAE Bilateral Relations

Diplomatic relations between the United States and the United Arab Emirates were established in 1972.

The United Arab Emirates plays a significant role in the Middle East and is a vital US ally. Both states enjoy robust bilateral cooperation on a wide range of issues including defense, non-proliferation, commerce, law enforcement, energy policy, and cultural exchange.

The two nations collaborate to promote peace and security, encourage economic growth, and enhance educational opportunities in the region and globally.
