US Appoints New Acting Ambassador to Pakistan

Islamabad (TDI): The United States of America has appointed Elizabeth Kathryn Horst as the new acting Ambassador to Pakistan. The diplomatic mission is currently headed by chargé d’affaires Natalie A. Baker since January, who was initially deployed to Islamabad as the Deputy Head of Mission in August last year.

Elizabeth Kathryn Horst is a distinguished career diplomat in the US Senior Foreign Service, currently serving as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, with designated responsibility for Pakistan.

Having begun her diplomatic journey in Pakistan over two decades ago, she returned in 2025 as the acting ambassador—a meaningful homecoming in her impactful career. Her leadership has fostered new heights in US–Pakistan relations, focusing on economic development, climate resilience, public health, and cultural diplomacy.

Horst has also celebrated people-to-people diplomacy, recalling her visit to Lahore Fort and joyfully sharing her experience of enjoying Pakistan’s famous mangoes—symbols of the enduring warmth and friendship between the two nations.

Her diplomatic service spans postings in Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Pakistan, reflecting her vast experience and strategic insight.

Horst continues to advocate for democratic values, rule of law, and inclusive cooperation, making her a true bridge-builder between the United States and Pakistan.
