US and Pakistan Relations
Pakistan’s independence in 1947 led to the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The stabilization of Afghanistan, counterterrorism, energy, trade, and investment are a few of the many areas whereby the US collaborates closely with Pakistan.
The biggest market for Pakistan’s exports is still the United States, which has been one of the biggest providers of foreign direct investment in Pakistan.
Therefore, in the past two decades, the United States has been one of the top investors in Pakistan. Along with major US investments focused on consumer goods, chemicals, energy, agriculture, business process outsourcing, transportation, and communications.
More to this, the United States has sought to deepen commercial ties with Pakistan. Thus, senior officials from the U.S. Commerce Department and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) have engaged with Pakistani leaders.
