United States Assistance to Afghanistan

The United States has altered the nature and scope of its actions in Afghanistan to concentrate on humanitarian aid and targeted support to help meet basic human needs and prevent an imminent economic collapse.

As part of these efforts, the United States has led the international response to provide humanitarian aid to the Afghan people through UN agencies and non-governmental organizations. It had provided a total of $775 million in aid as of July 2022.

In the key areas of food security/agriculture, health, and education, the United States has intensified its efforts to deliver lifesaving humanitarian aid and assist Afghans in meeting their basic needs.

The United States has supported programs to enhance human rights in Afghanistan, notably those of women, girls, and minority groups. The United States continues to be the leading humanitarian aid giver in Afghanistan.
