Islamabad: July 19, 2021- (TDI):  The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad met the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, and the Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, during his visit to Islamabad. During his meeting, the US Ambassador shed light on the significance of a timely political settlement between the Taliban and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. He emphasized that the instability in Afghanistan, resulting from the conflict, affects the whole region negatively. Regional security and development are impeded due to the conflictual situation in Afghanistan. On the other hand, peace will enhance regional connectivity, trade, and development. He reiterated the US’ commitment to playing its part in realizing this vision of regional peace and stability. He also shared the importance of physical and material support and a durable Pak-Afghan alliance to ensure the success of the Afghan Peace Process.
