Amman, 12 June 2024 (TDI): Today, the Urgent Humanitarian Response Conference underscored the integral position of the Gaza Strip as a part of Palestinian territory. The conference, “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza,” was held near Jordan’s Dead Sea.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II served as co-chairs of the summit. They denounced all unilateral actions that jeopardize the two-state solution and voiced severe worry about the worsening conditions in the occupied West Bank.

Along with this, the co-chairs expressed deep concern over the massive death toll and the unparalleled number of civilian casualties. A humanitarian crisis has developed in Gaza as a result of attacks on Palestine, as well as the Israel’s persistent denial of aid to those in need.

Together with President Mahmoud Abbas, the co-chairs reaffirmed the necessity of ending the occupation. It stands as a pre-requisite in bringing about a long-lasting peace in the Middle East based on the pre-1967 lines and to satisfy the rights of the Palestinian people for statehood.

Furthermore, they also demanded a thorough investigation into all of the deaths of United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) staff members and their children. In addition, inquiry has also been called for into more than 250 attacks on UNRWA schools.

Additionally, they strongly denounced assaults targeting Palestinian displaced camps and lamented the consequences of the war in Gaza.  They opposed the violation of international law by Israeli occupation forces through the ongoing operations in Rafah.

Call for Global Action

The Urgent Humanitarian Response Conference has urged the global community to push ahead with early recovery efforts and the safe repatriation of Palestinians. They also called for diplomatic efforts to terminate the Israeli occupation and create an independent Palestinian State.
