Tripoli, 3 September 2021 (TDI): The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Friday expresses deep concern over the recent armed clashes in Tripoli.
On 3 September, clashes broke out between rival armed groups in Salah al-Din, a densely populated area in Tripoli.
The United Nations Mission called on the Libyan authorities for an immediate halt to hostilities and urged all the parties to exercise maximum restraint.
UNSMIL stressed to all the parties that the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure must be the top priority. Moreover, the United Nations Mission also called on national authorities to assume responsibility for ensuring the civilians’ protection.
