UNOCHA reports global temperature records

New York, 10 October 2022 (TDI): UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) reported that the year 2022 set global temperature records. To stop a future of regular and fatal heat disasters, drastic measures are now required.

The planet is already experiencing serious effects of climate change. Those who are least responsible for greenhouse gas emissions are facing new and previously inconceivable difficulties.

The UN organization has produced together with other Offices, gives a sober overview of how just one of those challenges the rise in lethal heat waves threatens to give rise to new emergency requirements in the not-too-distant future.

Every year, hundreds of people die from heat waves, and as climate change progresses, this death toll will rise. UNOCHA anticipates that the efforts will act as both a wake-up call and a guide.

Moreover, to protect the most vulnerable individuals, heat waves necessitate a humanitarian response that is anchored locally, moves swiftly on the basis of data and analysis, & collaborates with local governments, civil society, and development actors.

Although the task is difficult, there has been a measurable success, even from developing nations, on which to grow.

Along these lines, though, even as UNOCHA works to enhance the emergency response to high temperatures, cannot fix this issue on its own.

The mitigation of climate change and support for long-term adaptation for the most vulnerable individuals must be the top immediate priority.

Without those efforts, the organization will experience increasingly destructive and deadly heat disasters in the future.

Therefore, Martin Griffiths, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator announced that in order to prevent the above-mentioned scenario, the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and Red Crescent Societies (RCS) and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs are dedicated to cooperating.
