New York, 15 October 2021(TDI): The 193 members of the United Nations paid tribute to former Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. Abdelaziz Bouteflika served as President of Algeria from 1999 to 2019. Former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika dies last month.
Abdelaziz Bouteflika has also served as the President of 29th session of the UN General Assembly in 1974.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, Abdelaziz Bouteflika promoted the values of justice, freedom, and peace as United Nations objectives.
Abdulla Shahid, the current president of the UN General Assembly conveyed heartfelt condolence to the people and government of Algeria and stated that Abdelaziz Bouteflika was one of the youngest President of UN General Assembly. He further added that the former President was committed to multilateralism and always implemented the principles of UN charter.
Muhammad Shahid Amin Khan, the 4th World Chairman of the International Human Rights Commission termed Abdelaziz Bouteflika as a great statesman and an advocate of justice and human rights. The International Human Rights Commission also paid tribute to the late Algerian President.
Furthermore, the Permanent representative of Egypt to the UN Osama Abdel Khalek said that the Former President Bouteflika was a brilliant leader and statesman who presided over a historic session of the United Nations General Assembly.
