Islamabad, 15 September 2021 (TDI): The United Nations (UN) applauded the Government of Pakistan for providing support and solidarity for the UN’s humanitarian operation in Afghanistan. Pakistan is assisting United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) by allowing convoys to deliver aid in Afghanistan through its borders.
The United Nations also reiterated the stance of Pakistan that the pragmatic engagement and support of the international community in Afghanistan is critical.
According to United Nations estimation, about 305 million people are displaced in Afghanistan and alone this year half a million fled Afghanistan due to the conflict. Therefore, the UNHCR is supplying essential items to the people of Afghanistan. During this year, it has provided relief to more than 300,000 displaced Afghans.
Pakistan on a number of occasions has highlighted that priority in endeavors to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan should be to prevent a humanitarian crises. Therefore, it has remained at the forefront in providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan not only on an individual level, but it is also helping other international organizations in their humanitarian efforts.
