Peshawar, 3 September 2022 (TDI): United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) provides seven thousand tents and other flood relief items to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Khyber Pakhtunkhawa.
UNHCR has shared this news on a social media site. Pakistan is receiving huge support from across the globe on the ongoing flood and devastation caused by the abnormal monsoon season this year.

Apart from the tents, 133,244 blankets, 80,000 mosquito nets, 35,347 jerrycans, 23,898 kitchen sets, plastic tarpaulins, buckets, solar lamps, sanitary kits for women, emergency reproductive and clinical delivery health kits, and other items are also provided.
An Overview of Efforts by UNHCR
On this occasion, the director general of PDMA signed a memorandum with the head of the UNHCR Sub-office in Peshawar. Also, the director general of PDMA expressed his gratitude for the UNHCR’s timely help in such harsh times.
Gayrat Ahmadshoev, UNHCR’s Head of Sub-Office in Peshawar, said, “Our teams have been out to visit flood-affected communities and provide our emergency support, adding to the ongoing effort of Pakistan’s authorities. We are working closely with the PDMA, and we will do everything we can at this time to help and stand by the people of the province.”
Moreover, the UNHCR representative, Gayrat Ahmadshoev has also expressed his unwavering support and solidarity with the flood victims.
Along these lines, the head of the UNHCR sub-office in Peshawar stressed the need to work for the ones who have lost their homes in these floods. Also, the representative reassured the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government that they would support them in every way possible.
Ahmadshoev further added, “Shelter is very important in responding to the needs of people whose houses have been destroyed and washed away. More needs to be done, and UNHCR is committed as much as we can to continue to support. International solidarity is vital right now.”
Furthermore, UNHCR efforts have been worthy of sustainable development. The agency has also directly provided food, shelter, and necessities to the flood victims through its partners.
However, since July, UNHCR has been leading the protection efforts as a part of the UN’s monsoon response.
Apart from that, the UNHCR has been working for the betterment of the Afghan refugees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They have lost everything in these floods.
Lastly, the agency is working to raise awareness worldwide about the disastrous floods in Pakistan. Awakening humanity to help each other in such critical times is the aim of UNHCR.
