UN Women Rep for Pakistan Meets Thai Envoy

Islamabad (TDI): The UN Women Representative for Pakistan, Jamshed M. Kazi, on Monday called on Thailand’s Ambassador-designate to Pakistan, Mr Rongvudhi Virabutr, to introduce himself.

The two dignitaries discussed cooperation in women empowerment in Pakistan.

The ambassador highlighted the role of women in Pakistani society, focusing on women’s employment and teaching them the necessary skills for career development and the generation of income for their families.

“This initiative is crucial for strengthening and driving Pakistan’s economic growth and social development as well as contributing towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to women’s roles as key drivers of social development,” he noted.

Both sides discussed potential areas for future collaboration between the Thai Embassy and UN Women Pakistan. Key ideas included:

  1. Training Pakistani women to establish and run beauty salons in their communities.
  2. Creating job opportunities for rural women using Thailand’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, inspired by the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, which emphasizes sustainable livelihoods.

The Ambassador expressed readiness to support other priority projects of UN Women, such as increased political participation, and women empowerment through digital platforms and e-commerce.
