UN Women Pakistan efforts to raise awareness against harassment

Islamabad, 1 October 2021 (TDI): Sharmeela Rassool – UN Women Country Representative for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan attended the seminar on awareness regarding protection against harassment organized by the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment (FOSPAH) at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

While giving her speech she stated that the media has the power to change lives and awareness is the initial step for empowerment. She encouraged the media to collaborate with UN Women Pakistan to empower the women of Pakistan.

Sharmeela Rassool mentioned that the biggest opportunity for Pakistan is to economically empower young women. She further added, “investing in young women’s economic empowerment and skills development is one of the most urgent and effective means to drive progress on gender equality”. During the event Kashmala Khan – Federal Ombudsman for Harassment said, this event is an effort to raise awareness of the special law of harassment and women’s property rights.
